SUMMARY

Performs with minimal supervision, all activities relating to the sterile processing and inventory management of surgical sets, equipment, medical supplies, endoscopy and linen in support of Morton Hospital and satellite customers. Responsible for inventory management of SPD stock levels, OR case cart management, and patient care procedure carts. Monitors and documents all aspects of sterile processing procedures to ensure the highest level of quality assurance standards are performed accurately.

Requires schedule flexibility to work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays to accommodate staffing needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Processing:
    Performs processing techniques in accordance with AAMI, JCAHO standards and infection control guidelines in the sterilization of surgical instrumentation, sets, equipment, expendable medical supplies, and linen.
  • Assembly & Preparation:
    Applies numerous preparation techniques to ensure sterilization and damage prevention; inspects items for serviceability; inspects sets and packages to ensure integrity and proper preparation.
  • Sterilization – Processing Procedures:
    Tests, monitors, handles, and loads items for sterilization using Prev Vac/Gravity Steam, Sterrad, Steris Sterilizers and HLDD; demonstrates proper loading, handling, testing, and monitoring procedures.
  • Inventory Management:
    Reorders, stores, locates, and distributes processed and stocked items in SPD; fills surgical case carts for OR and day surgery; restocks patient care procedure carts for clinics, PCA, and unit departments; maintains department stock par levels.
  • Education & Training Compliance:
    Attends all mandatory department in‑service programs and meetings; follows up on all job‑related in‑services; records instructional hard‑copy education; participates in quality improvement programs.
  • Policies & Procedures:
    Maintains awareness of department, hospital, and steward healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Work Ethic:
    Supports departmental professionalism and teamwork; reports to work on schedule and on time; adheres to steward healthcare policy of use of earned time; provides support to internal and external staff; assists in unassigned areas as needed; completes all tasks accurately and efficiently; applies proper work safety techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year experience as Sterile Processing/CPD Technician.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, sterilization; care and handling of surgical instrumentation, tray preparation, and special procedure items.
  • Ability to operate all sterilization equipment.
  • Ability to comply with all department and hospital procedures and policies.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English clearly; good written and oral skills; knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Professional demeanor at all times, even under stressful situations.
EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Active Certified/Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) status.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee will perform or have exposure to the following demands:

  • 75% or more: stand / walk; use hands, fingers, arms; climb or balance; talk or hear; lift up to 25 lbs; exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; exposure to cleaning agents.
  • 50–75%: stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift up to 10 lbs; exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; exposure to hot or noisy equipment.
  • 25–50%: taste or smell; lift up to 50 lbs; exposure to flammable, explosive gases; exposure to dust or other irritants; exposure to grease or oils.

Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Safety equipment used while performing this job: safety eye glasses, face shields, surgical mask and gown, gloves.

$19.73–$28.82
