LocationCumberland County Courthouse, Portland.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain courtroom technology, including recording systems, courtroom sound systems, assistive listening devices, video monitors, DVD/VHS players, interactive video conferencing systems, MAC/PC systems, and other related equipment.
- Record, monitor, and log court proceedings using digital or analog recording systems.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and refer to service contractors as needed.
- Arrange for maintenance, testing, care, and inventory of equipment.
- In the courtroom, check microphones, cabling, recording heads, and monitor audio quality during proceedings; adjust volumes and microphone positions as necessary.
- Create detailed log notes and play back recordings; mark exhibits and prepare materials requested by the Court.
- Produce and assess original and duplicate recordings; conduct quality control reviews and develop procedures.
- Provide staff training and develop training materials/checklists.
- Forward transcript orders and estimate costs to the Office of Transcript Operations.
- Prepare reports, memoranda, and other court‑related documents as instructed.
- Travel to assigned courts and provide administrative support when required.
- Provide excellent customer service in interactions with the public, judicial officers, court staff, attorneys, and other agencies.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum two years of clerical experience in a clerk’s office or comparable work; experience with courtroom technologies preferred.
- Knowledge of various courtroom technologies such as recording, sound, assistive listening, and computer systems.
- Ability to learn detailed computer applications and work with networked computers.
- Proficient keyboard typing at a minimum of 45 words per minute.
- Strong customer service skills and effective communication with public, staff, attorneys, and agencies.
- Understanding of court procedures, legal documents, and applicable laws.
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality of sensitive Judicial Branch information.
- Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.
- Willingness to travel to courts across the state.
