Title: Food Services Director
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Food Service program complies with federal and state standards.
- Promote growth in participation and quality of the program.
- Maintain Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) status when applicable.
- Serve as primary liaison with the outsourced vendor, monitor performance, and document compliance; assist with procurement processes.
- Monitor condition, maintenance, and safe operation of kitchen and cafeteria equipment; collaborate with vendor and school administration for repairs, preventive maintenance, and upgrades.
- Manage the Point of Sale System, including user administration, data accuracy, training and updates.
- Standardize cafeteria accounting procedures in cooperation with the Business Office.
- Plan and supervise preparation and service of breakfast and lunch at all schools.
- Order food and drinks for school events (professional development, class parties, field trips, summer school, etc.).
- Process state reimbursements monthly and free/reduced lunch applications per state guidelines.
- Place daily snack orders for the after‑school program.
- Inform parents, students and staff of planned menus; issue public communications regarding CEP/application processes and notification requirements.
- Inspect cafeterias regularly to ensure cleanliness, safety, and meal pattern compliance.
- Suggest improvements to the lunch program, including marketing and education initiatives.
- Verify bills and purchase orders before presenting to the Business Office for payment.
- Collaborate with state nutrition departments and other program heads (e.g., finance, commodities).
- Conduct administrative reviews and compliance audits of breakfast and lunch programs with the business office.
- Monitor professional development requirements for all staff involved in the programs.
- Provide monthly electronic billings for receivables/balances due.
- Set prices for a‑la‑carte items per USDA and Massachusetts DESE guidance and federal regulations.
- Participate in the Wellness Committee and other student wellness initiatives; provide special dietary accommodations as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and/or Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, food service management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–3 years of experience in school food service or cafeteria operations and 3–5 years of experience in program or vendor management, budgeting, or compliance oversight.
- Knowledge of USDA professional standards, federal nutrition program regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Serv Safe certification and completion of required USDA annual continuing education (minimum 12 h/year, at least 8 h of food safety within 5 years).
- Ability to perform tasks with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school administration, staff, students, families, vendor staff, and community organizations.
- Proficiency in MS Office products.
Additional Requirements:
- Performs duties assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and/or Executive Director.
Term of Employment: 10 month – 207 days; 3 weeks before the start of a new school year and 1 week at the end of the school year. Salary negotiated by contract.
Work Environment: Dynamic school environment requiring movement between office and cafeteria spaces; use of computers and other office equipment; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; possible travel between campus locations.
