Lead Electromechanical Technician
The Lead Electromechanical Technician provides expert-level support on the production floor by performing complex electromechanical assemblies while leading and coordinating the work of other technicians. This role combines hands-on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting with oversight of workflow, quality, and team performance. You will serve as the primary point of contact between production and leadership teams, ensuring that assemblies meet specifications, documentation is accurate, and daily activities run smoothly.
Responsibilities- Perform advanced electromechanical assembly of wires, harnesses, and components using hand tools, power tools, crimpers, micrometers, and test equipment.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other technical documentation to complete assemblies accurately.
- Lead and oversee the daily workflow of other technicians, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring that production schedules and quality standards are met.
- Monitor the quality of work performed on the production floor, conduct quality checks, and support quality control activities to ensure assemblies meet specifications.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and production leadership to coordinate activities, address issues, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between production leadership and the production team, communicating priorities, updates, and changes in requirements.
- Train and mentor other technicians on assembly techniques, proper use of tools and equipment, documentation practices, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Perform electrical wiring, soldering, and mechanical assembly tasks, including harness routing, electrical troubleshooting, and repair of assemblies as needed.
- Use computer systems to complete documentation, including checklists, inspection data, and production records, ensuring all information is accurate and up to date.
- Support maintenance and repair activities related to electromechanical assemblies and equipment, as required by production needs.
- Apply attention to detail in all aspects of work, including assembly, inspection, and documentation, to maintain high standards of product quality.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to electrical wiring, schematics, and assembly processes on the production floor.
- At least 5 years of experience in electromechanical assembly.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to oversee workflow, guide other technicians, and act as a point of contact between production and leadership.
- Strong attention to detail in assembly, inspection, and documentation activities.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and related technical documentation.
- Hands-on experience with electrical assembly, wiring, and electromechanical systems.
- Ability to perform soldering, harness routing, and use of hand tools and power tools for assembly work.
- Experience using crimpers, micrometers, and test equipment in a production environment.
- Electrical troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing issues with wiring and assemblies.
- Experience performing quality control and quality checks on electromechanical assemblies.
- Ability to use a computer for documentation, including entering inspection data, completing checklists, and maintaining accurate production records.
- Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating with engineering, quality, and production teams.
- Capability to work independently while also supporting and coordinating the work of a team.
Skills & Qualifications
- IPC-A-610, WHMA A-620, J-STD-001, or similar industry certifications (preferred but not required).
- Assembly or soldering certificates (preferred).
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems for tracking production activities and materials.
- Additional computer skills related to documentation, data entry, and basic software tools.
