Volunteer Coordinator, VNA of Cape Cod
Purpose of Position:
Manages the volunteer services department. Plans and coordinates daily delivery of all volunteer services including hospice, thrift shop, clinical and administrative volunteers. Establishes policies, procedures, objectives and standards for the volunteers. Plans, organizes and directs the recruitment, training and utilization of all volunteers.
- Establish and implement policies and procedures for the department within the guidelines of Joint Commission, OSHA DPH and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and department personnel to support the development of direct reports.
- Recruit, interview, select, supervise and evaluate volunteers with input from the Director of Hospice as required.
- Collaborate with the Education Manager to design and supervise the orientation and training of volunteers regarding agency philosophy, policy and practice.
- Maintain records pertaining to volunteer qualifications and training, as per Joint Commission, DPH, Medicare, and regulatory guidelines.
- Assign volunteers to service based on department needs, patient/family needs and overall volunteer interests and skills.
- Record, assess and monitor a record-keeping system, which includes volunteer hours and services delivered as required for Medicare documentation.
- Effectively manage the expectations of patients and families, and performance of direct reports.
- Contact hospice patients or caregivers and perform initial evaluation of volunteer need as directed by interdisciplinary plan of care and assign volunteers accordingly.
- With hospice team, design, schedule and coordinate hospice volunteer training, support sessions and monitor need for in-service education.
- Assess appropriateness of volunteer use across all business units; develop and implement new volunteer positions in accordance with agency needs.
- Develop and implement a volunteer action plan based on specific needs communicated by the concerned discipline.
- Plan, promote and implement agency volunteer events.
- Prepare monthly report of the volunteer program and its activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co‑workers in a manner that reflects VNA’s commitment to CARES: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service.
- 2 years of college‑level education in Human Resources or Public Relations preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in health care and volunteer activity.
- Experience in administrative functions, including ability to develop policies and procedures as it relates to the volunteer program.
- 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
Full‑time, Monday–Friday, occasional evenings, occasional weekends and occasional holidays.
