Overview

Provides administrative, technical, supervisory work, and highly skilled hands-on manual work in planning/managing and executing the care of street and park shade trees including planting, designing, relocating, trimming, and removal of trees and spraying for pest control; all other duties as assigned. Additionally responsible for assisting the Tree Warden in planning, managing, supervising, and executing general roadside maintenance.

(Included in overview and expanded here for clarity) - Plan, manage, and execute maintenance and care of municipal shade trees on streets and parks.

- Plant, design, relocate, trim, and remove trees as needed, including pest control measures.

- Assist the Tree Warden with planning, supervising, and executing general roadside maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate of Science degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, or related field preferred; or over five years of experience in tree maintenance and pest control, with at least two years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as an arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture or the Massachusetts Arborists Association. CDL Class B Driver's license and Massachusetts Hoisting licenses required;

and the ability to obtain a Pesticide License within probationary period.

Additional Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles and practices of arboriculture. Familiarity with state and federal rules and regulations governing arboriculture, horticulture, and tree maintenance (including safety requirements). Technical knowledge and experience in problems commonly encountered by a municipal Tree Warden or Arborist. Ability to manage and implement a large municipal-scale tree maintenance and roadside maintenance program. Ability to work effectively in precarious positions at considerable heights above the ground.

Ability to instruct, train and direct subordinates. Ability to help develop and effectively manage budgets. Ability to operate all types of equipment related to tree maintenance. Ability to keep detailed records. Demonstrated ability to meet and deal appropriately with a large variety of people. Ability to assist in the professional public presentations to citizens or Town Leaders. Demonstrated ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates;

and to evaluate their performance. Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment. Ability to use computers, and programs including Microsoft Office and database programs.

Compensation & Benefits

$2,872.23 bi-weekly, plus benefits:
