The Stewardship Coordinator ensures the responsible management, monitoring, and protection of the SLCT’s conserved lands, including fee-owned properties and properties with Conservation Restrictions. The person in this role coordinates stewardship activities, supports compliance obligations, and works closely with the Board, committees, volunteers, and partners.

I. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Fee & CR Monitoring & Reporting

Conduct annual monitoring of all Conservation Restriction (CR) properties held by SLCT (approximately 14 properties / 348 acres as of 1/26).

Conduct annual monitoring of all fee-owned properties owned by SLCT (approximately 42 properties / 347 acres as of 1/26).

Coordinate with landowners as needed.

Prepare written monitoring reports for review and approval by the SLCT Board and submit finalized reports to landowners.

Maintain accurate and complete stewardship records within the Landscape database.

For newly acquired properties, as needed:

  • Document baseline site conditions through photographs and written observations,
  • Review historic and current aerial imagery,
  • Collect deeds, surveys, maps, conservation restrictions, and related records,
  • Upload above into the Landscape database and report findings to the SLCT Board.
Property Maintenance & Stewardship Planning

Ensure stewardship work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with SLCT policies and conservation objectives.

Maintenance activities may include trail mowing, brush hogging, tree and shrub pruning or removal, plantings, invasive species management, hazard tree removal, and trash removal.

Develop and maintain relationships that support stewardship and conservation goals:

  • Supervise contractors (e.g., landscapers, tractor operators, arborists) to carry out regular property maintenance on fee-owned properties,
  • Supervise volunteers and community groups (including Scouts),
  • Coordinate with municipal departments, regulatory agencies, abutters, and utility companies as required,
  • Coordinate Special Projects, which may include invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, educational or informational signage, gates, etc.
Encroachments & Hazard Management

Identify, document, and report encroachments, violations, and safety hazards on SLCT properties to SLCT Board.

Record findings through photographs and written descriptions in the Landscape database.

Assist with communication and coordination with abutters and report issues and recommended actions to the SLCT Board.

Stewardship Related Events

Plan, organize, and facilitate community cleanups and stewardship workdays.

Coordinate with the Publicity and Outreach Committee:

  • By providing content and materials for publicity,
  • On communications using Mail Chimp, social media platforms, and community calendars,
  • Develop and maintain relationships with volunteers, community partners, and organizations.
II. DEVELOPMENT and ADMINISTRATION Meetings, Committees & Professional Development

Attend and participate in monthly SLCT Board meetings and the Annual Meeting.

Participate as an ex-officio member of the Stewardship Committee and Outreach Committee.

In consultation with the Board President, attend relevant workshops, trainings, and planning sessions to maintain professional knowledge and skills related to land stewardship and conservation.

Administrative Duties

Relay or respond to inquiries from landowners, partners, contractors, volunteers, and the general public.

Assess operational needs; procure and maintain equipment, supplies, and licenses as required for stewardship activities.

Coordinate with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper regarding invoices, reimbursements, and contractor payments.
