Harvard University Housing & Real Estate

Harvard University Housing & Real Estate (HUHRE) is a department within Harvard Campus Services, a multi-department organization within Harvard's Central Administration. HUHRE supports the University's educational and research efforts by offering Harvard affiliates a wide array of housing and real estate services in University-owned properties which are conveniently located, competitively priced, and professionally managed to residents and tenants alike. HUHRE serves as the asset manager for Harvard's portfolio of commercial spaces and centrally stewarded institutional assets, overseeing the leasing and operations of University-owned institutional space for Harvard affiliates and commercial spaces for rent by private retail tenants within the Cambridge, and Greater Boston area.

HUHRE manages a broad range of initiatives and assets to help support the Harvard community. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Leasing, managing, and renewing Harvard-owned housing as well as Harvard offices/institutional spaces, and commercial real estate portfolios
  • Leading community engagement and programming opportunities
  • Managing relationships with external partners and vendors
  • Working within the larger University community to develop and coordinate University-wide policies and strategies
  • Supporting new University housing and real estate development projects across the Cambridge and Greater Boston area
  • Acting as a University resource for real estate challenges and opportunities across schools and units

The Asset Management Analyst delivers comprehensive real estate asset management, financial analysis, and project execution across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties within the Harvard Housing and Real Estate portfolio. Responsibilities include decision making and implementing asset management initiatives, building and maintaining financial models to evaluate cash flow and leasing scenarios; providing input on acquisitions and dispositions through underwriting and due diligence;

and broadly assisting the development group.

The position also requires close collaboration across the HUHRE organization, development of standardized processes, and clear communication of insights through presentations and reports to senior leadership. Additional duties involve self-directed market research, lease administration, and contributing to broader departmental initiatives that support overall portfolio performance and strategic goals.

Job-Specific Responsibilities Project Management
  • Develop, prioritize, and implement recommendations for University leadership arising from ongoing asset management analysis (e.g., financial performance, utilization, and market positioning) to drive the economic performance and long-term value of the University’s real estate portfolio.
  • Establish, document, and refine scalable asset management policies, procedures, and standards that can be easily replicated across the University’s diverse real estate holding, ensuring consistent practices.
