Overview
Blue Voice is hiring an experienced UX Researcher to lead qualitative research across one of our primary user populations. We build secure, AI-powered software for law enforcement and first responders, and our platform is used by departments across the country on web and mobile. As we expand our product line, we’re investing heavily in research-led product development and want to design from first principles with a deep understanding of our users.
Aboutthe Role
In this role, you’ll partner directly with our product, engineering, and leadership teams to plan and conduct qualitative research, including depth interviews, contextual inquiry, workflow observation, diary studies, and related methods. We’re looking for someone who can turn research into decisions, not just decks.
Responsibilities- Conduct research with users across law enforcement and adjacent first-responder roles
- Recruit and schedule participants with support from our customer success and sales teams
- Synthesize findings into actionable UX recommendations, friction/opportunity backlogs, personas, journeys, and executive-ready summaries
- Present insights to product, engineering, and leadership teams
- Facilitate working sessions that translate user insights into product direction
- Bring strong, grounded UX recommendations based on what you learn
- Help improve existing products by identifying KPIs, targets, and layout/product improvements
- Have led qualitative UX research, ideally in B2B SaaS or a product context
- Are comfortable researching with users across a wide range of technical confidence levels
- Can turn hours of interviews into something a busy product team will actually read and act on
- Are comfortable working under NDA with sensitive customer information
- Are self-directed and comfortable shaping the research approach in a small, fast-moving team
- Public sector, government, law enforcement, fire, or EMS
- Change-management or migration-focused research
- Accreditation, certification, training, or compliance workflows
- Light quantitative validation, such as small surveys or basic analysis
- Familiarity with engineering workflows or scoping research into tickets/specs
The initial engagement is a focused 12-week research project covering one of our product expansion areas. We’re open to hourly, daily, project-based, or retainer structures, as well as individual consultants or small teams.
Application InformationTo apply, please email amit and jordan with:
- Brief introduction — who you are, your research practice, and why this role interests you.
- Proposed approach (high level) — your default methodology for a 6-8 week qualitative research engagement covering 4-5 personas. We're not looking for a full proposal at this stage, just enough to see how you think.
- Proposed budget structure — fee structure and rough total cost for the initial scope.
- Sample of past work (optional) — a redacted excerpt from a prior research deliverable that you feel represents your depth and tone.
- Two references from prior research engagements.
Blue Voice is building software to make the work of first responders safer, faster, and more effective. We’re looking for a researcher who shares that mission and brings the rigor to help us serve our users well.
