VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY: ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH TEAM

EXPERIMENTAL APPROACHES TO COLLABORATIVE HERITAGE: UCL MULTIMEDIA ANTHROPOLOGY LAB

UCL MAL is calling for participants to join the Ethnographic Research Team in our Experiments in Collaborative Heritage project, working in collaboration with Guarani and Kaiowá Indigenous communities in Brazil. This project takes place in partnership with the British Museum’s Endangered Material Knowledge Programme (EMKP), the UCL Grant Museum of Zoology, and UCL Grand Challenges.

We invite applicants who have experience in ethnographic research, literature reviews and theoretical analysis in anthropology, humanities and social sciences to join the UCL MAL project for a period of 2 months to participate in this exciting collaboration between anthropologists, computer scientists and indigenous communities in Brazil. This is a particularly important role, as it will support the Guarani and Kaiowá community to ensure their cultural and ecological knowledge is preserved and communicated to a global audience.

Participants will gain practical experience in diverse areas, including:

  • Ethnographic Research with Indigenous Communities in Brazil (remote)
  • Collaborative & Codesigned Research Methodologies
  • Analysis of Ethnographic Data
  • Literature Reviews
  • Creative research dissemination
  • Funding Application Strategies
  • Project management and Team Leadership

Participants will be expected to dedicate six hours per week to team activities during the summer term production studio, which will take place during May & June 2026.

At the end of the 2 month period, all participants will receive a UCL MAL certificate confirming the activities they engaged in and the skills developed, outlining the hours worked, outputs created and impact that they helped produce. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any financial compensation for participation.

To apply, please email us briefly introducing yourself, outlining your skills, and telling us why you would like to participate. Please email us at  by Monday 4th of May.
