Position: Mobile Diesel Technician II $3000 New Hire Bonus

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.

The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques, and a successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust and repair various truck equipment including electrical, brake and cooling systems, starters, alternators, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, and lifts and jacks.
  • Document work in compliance with company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, or to discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA and DOT.
Requirements

High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a level degree or certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years of experience in a related field.

Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.

This position follows regulations issued by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The candidate must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.

A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the card has four (4) months or less of validity, a DOT physical will be required.
