POSITION TYPE:
This is a part-time, AFSCME unit position, without benefits not to exceed 18.5 hours per week.
SALARY: $20.92/hr
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Trades Worker (part-time) supports skilled trades personnel in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of facilities, equipment, and systems. This role performs routine maintenance tasks across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on electrically powered equipment and appliances such as motors, pumps, lamps, and fans, following journeyman direction and equipment service manuals.
* Complete basic electrical tasks not requiring a licensed electrician, including replacing light bulbs.
* Conduct preventive maintenance and routine repairs on heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including replacing belts, filters, bearings, and cooling coils, and adjusting temperature controls as needed.
* Maintain machinery, equipment, and tools by cleaning, lubricating, greasing, and oiling to ensure optimal working conditions.
* Assist with minor carpentry work, including constructing tables, wooden barricades, window screens, and similar structures using hand and power tools.
* Assist with the sanding and painting.
* Assist with installation and routine repair of floor coverings such as tile, linoleum, and rugs.
* Performs related duties such as furnishing tools and materials to tradesmen during the course of a job; holding materials or tools in place while tradesmen work on them; cleaning the work area upon completion.
* Cleaning roof drains on a monthly schedule or as deemed needed.
* Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICAITONS:
* Knowledge of the use and operation of hand held power tools such as drills/ etc.
* Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools such as pliers, chisels, hammers, etc.
* Knowledge of the methods used in the care and maintenance of small and hand held power tools.
* Skill in using small hand tools such as pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
* Skill in using hand held power tools such as drills, etc.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
* Ability to deal tactfully with others.
* Ability to maintain a calm manner in emergency situations.
* Ability to work in a team setting.
* Mechanical aptitude.
* Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
* Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
* Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
* Physical stamina and endurance.
* Manual dexterity
