Position Summary
Company: Cox Automotive – Cox Fleet
Job Title: Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – DOT Management Level Individual Contributor
Work Mode: Flexible work option; can work remotely but must reside in the specified city, state, or region.
Travel: 100% of the time.
Shift: Day. Compensation: hourly base pay $29.42 – $44.13 per hour, may vary based on location and qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission, incentive program. New hire bonus $3,000 ($1,500 after 30 days, $1,500 after 180 days).
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Conduct minor adjustment and repairs on truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas & diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, air‑conditioning systems, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment using diagnostic instruments and test equipment.
- Inspect, test, listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions; use handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other instruments.
- Road‑test vehicles for safety and functionality.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and generate solutions using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Interact with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks, allocate time efficiently, and manage own daily schedule with a high degree of independence.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards; upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of relevant experience (or combinations such as any degree in a related discipline plus 5 years of experience).
- Must possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
- Must obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months of hire.
- Must successfully complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, or provide a valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining (otherwise a DOT physical required).
- Must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid state driver’s license, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Must be able to work independently, travel 100% of the time, and lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods.
- ASE T8 (PMI)
- Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609.
- Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Physical endurance to lift, bend, climb, stand, walk, and perform moderately heavy labor over extended periods.
- Communicate succinctly and organize information effectively.
- Engage in effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups.
- Determine appropriate tools and equipment.
- Accurately judge distances between objects.
- Apply logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and conclusions.
