REPORTS TO:
Director of Buildings and Grounds Operations.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The standard schedule for this position is 40 hours per week;
Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. This is an essential personnel position.
POSITION STATUS:
This is a full-time, state funded, AFSCME Unit II, Grade 13, Step 1 position
SALARY: $50,245.56 annually.
* Appointments from outside the bargaining unit begin at Step 1.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Carpenter I performs skilled work in carpentry for all Bristol Community College locations. The Carpenter I, among other duties, constructs, installs, repairs, modifies and maintains walls, ceilings, doors, window jams, floors, cabinets including all hardware necessary to complete assigned work. The Carpenter I works cooperatively to complete assigned duties with various college departments and areas, such as but not limited to Grounds, Events Scheduling, and Business Services.
The position will be primarily based in Fall River with required travel to work at other Bristol locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS,
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Maintain buildings and related structures applying carpentry techniques and using carpentry tools to construct, alter, repair and/or install walls, stairs, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, roofs, gutters, locks, air conditioners, mail slots, chair rails, ramps, shelving, etc.
* Install acoustical ceiling systems, resilient flooring, and carpet tiles.
* Report needed equipment and supplies in order to maintain proper amounts of inventory to perform jobs in a timely manner.
* Perform preventive maintenance and work request procedures as outlined in the computerized maintenance management system.
* Assist with other trades work when necessary.
* Focus on customer service best practices when working with Bristol community members, including faculty, staff, and students.
* Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
* Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in carpentry, woodworking or cabinet-making work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at high school level or higher, with a major in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking may be substituted for the required experience.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
* The principles and techniques of carpentry and the types and uses of material used in carpentry.
* The safety practices and procedures followed in carpentry and the types and uses of safety equipment used in carpentry.
* The types and uses of small hand held tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, chisels, drills, etc.
* The types and uses of hand held power tools such as power saws, power drills, power hammers, etc.
Demonstrated ability to:
* Follow oral and written instructions.
* Climb and work from ladders and scaffolds.
* Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
* Stand for prolonged periods of time.
* Lift and carry heavy objects.
* Give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
* Skill in using small hand tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, chisels, drills, etc.
* Skill in using hand held power tools such as saws, drills, power hammers, etc.
* Physical stamina and endurance.
* Valid driver's license required.
