Overview
The Aircraft Mechanic Egress (AME) performs organizational, intermediate and limited depot level maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair, modification and troubleshooting on all assigned aircraft, components and equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and to provide technical assistance, guidance and instruction to other employees as needed.
Responsibilities- Maintains FA-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C and MH-60S aircraft in accordance with Navy, manufacturer and company distributors.
- Responsible for all egress system on and off equipment maintenance
- Removes, transports, inspects, repairs and reinstalls ejection seats.
- Inspects, repairs and cleans seat harnesses.
- Inventories, stores, removes and replaces seat CAD/PAD explosive items
- Maintains and inspects on board oxygen generating system (OBOGS) & Liquid Oxygen (LOX).
- Performs aircraft scheduled/unscheduled on and off equipment maintenance.
- Performs aircraft corrosion control procedures to include wash, wipe down, polish and vacuum.
- Operates GSE, flight line vehicles and other support equipment as required.
- Drives tugs for the purpose of towing equipment and aircraft.
- Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft forms and VIDS/MAF System.
- Supervises/assists in aircraft/equipment movement and flight line foreign object prevention walks.
- Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention and safety at all times.
- Shall perform other job-related duties as may be assigned.
- This classification activity is usually accomplished in a hangar/shop/flight line environment and may involve physical movements and postures; may be exposed to high noise, fumes or electrical hazards; may involve inclement weather and temperature variations.
- May be required to lift objects up to 70 pounds.
- Special vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
- May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
- Minimum two (2) years’ recent experience in ejection seat maintenance and two (2) years recent egress system repair experience.
- Must have F-18 (SJU-17 NACES seat) aircraft maintenance experience.
- Shall be a graduate of a Navy AME “A” school and CENNAVAVNTECTRAU for specific T/M/S or factory equivalent ejection seat course of instruction.
- Shall be qualified on ground support equipment applicable to the specialty.
- Shall be familiar with Navy technical publications.
- Capable of conducting on-the-job training and maintenance of Contractor personnel seat/cockpit safety checkout training records; and shall be experienced and qualified in the removal and replacement of ejection seats, canopies and explosive devices, both “I” and “O” levels.
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions and special tools and test equipment.
- Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain government required clearance and certifications.
- Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules.
- Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent.
- Preferred: FOD and TCP Awareness Training;
Security Clearance Awareness Training; NALCOMIS; ESD;
Hazardous Waste Communications Training; ISO Program Awareness; COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness;
Hazardous Waste Awareness Training. - Collateral Duty Inspector (in 2 T/M/S aircraft) and Egress System Checkout.
- Non-Nuclear Ordnance Explosive Handling Certified;
Plane Captain Qualified;
Aircraft Towing Certified;
Aircraft Brake Rider Certified. - Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training;
Fuel Surveillance Training;
Engine Run (1 T/M/S minimum) Troubleshooter/Final Checker Certified. - Security clearance awareness and other program-specific trainings as required.
