Overview
The successful Aircraft Mechanic-Avionics performs organizational, intermediate and limited depot level maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair, modification and troubleshooting on all assigned aircraft, components and equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and to provide technical assistance, guidance and instruction to other employees as needed. Performs testing and troubleshooting of weapons systems, complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems, communication/navigations, electronic flight control, fuel, power generators, power distribution systems, lighting systems, flight instrument and fuel systems, temperature and pressure indicating, engine and control indications, ATFLIR, Electronic Counter Measure, and RADAR systems.
Reads and interprets blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals. This classification activity is usually accomplished in a hangar/shop/flight line environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with these activities. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 70 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, snow, ice, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.
May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
- Perform organizational, intermediate and limited depot level maintenance on aircraft, components and equipment, including inspection, testing and troubleshooting.
- Repair, modify and troubleshoot complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems (weapons systems, communication/navigation, electronic flight control, fuel, power generation and distribution, lighting, flight instruments, temperature and pressure indicating, engine indications, ATFLIR, Electronic Counter Measure and RADAR systems).
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and safety manuals.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance and instruction to other employees as needed and communicate effectively during aircrew de-brief.
- Work in hangar/shop/flight line environments and comply with safety and operational procedures. Maintain required physical fitness and be able to lift up to 70 pounds when necessary.
- Minimum three years’ experience within the last eight years in their specific aircraft maintenance occupational field. The last two years must have been in the military or with a government aviation maintenance contractor.
- Experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.
- Qualification according to field of expertise and level of maintenance assigned. Ability to obtain/maintain company/government qualifications, certifications, licensing, or clearance as required; ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. US Citizenship required for Secret Clearance.
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable discharge.
- Must be able to work all assigned shifts and have a valid state driver’s license.
- Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, or MH-60S aircraft preferred.
- Expertise in aircraft systems, avionics theory and applications; in-depth knowledge of maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions and tools.
- Familiarity with operational capabilities/limitations of aircraft systems; thorough knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention and treatment.
