Responsibilities
The Aircraft Mechanic‑Avionics performs organizational, intermediate, and limited depot level maintenance, including inspection, operational test, repair, modification, and troubleshooting on all assigned aircraft, components, and equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to other employees as needed. Performs testing and troubleshooting of weapons systems, complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems, communication/navigations, electronic flight control, fuel, power generators, power distribution systems, lighting systems, flight instrument and fuel systems, temperature and pressure indicating, engine and control indications, ATFLIR, Electronic Counter Measure, and RADAR systems.
Provides technical assistance and communication during aircrew de‑brief. Reads and interprets blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals. Usually performed in a hangar/shop/flight line environment; requires physical movements and postures associated with these activities. May be required to lift objects not exceeding 70 pounds. Requires special vision abilities: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
Work conditions may vary from minimal physical discomfort to inclement weather (temperature, wind, rain, snow, ice). May need to work in high‑noise areas, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, or electrical shock hazards. Off‑site service on assigned detachments may also be required.
Minimum Qualifications- Minimum 3 years’ experience with corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
- Qualified according to field of expertise and level of maintenance assigned.
- Ability to obtain/maintain company/government required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or clearance.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Recent experience with F‑18A‑F, EA‑18G, E‑2C, or MH‑60S aircraft.
- High degree of expertise in aircraft systems, avionics theory, and applications.
- In‑depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools and test equipment.
- Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
- Thorough working knowledge of detection, prevention, and treatment of corrosion.
- Working knowledge of aircraft sub‑systems, maintenance parameters, systems operations, limitations, and technical orders.
- Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, hydraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, ventilation and heating systems to ensure safe operation.
- Customer‑oriented mindset.
- Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent Hazardous Waste Communication Training.
- FOD and TCP Awareness.
- Trained Security Clearance Awareness Training.
- COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness.
- NALCOMIS/OOMA Trained (preferred).
- ESD Trained (preferred).
- Support Equipment Operator’s License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, Mobile Start Unit – minimum).
- Collateral Duty Inspector (in 2 T/M/S aircraft).
- Egress System Checkout.
- Plane Captain Qualified (preferred).
- Aircraft Towing Certified (preferred).
- Aircraft Brake Rider Certified (preferred).
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Fuel Surveillance Trained (preferred).
Hourly Rate of Pay: $60.66 (set by CBA). This position includes a competitive benefits package.
