Overview
The Aircraft Mechanic-Powerplant performs organizational, intermediate and limited depot level maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair, modification and troubleshooting on all assigned aircraft, components and equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and to provide technical assistance, guidance and instruction to other employees as needed.
Responsibilities- Maintain all aircraft main, auxiliary, secondary power systems, fuel systems, engine level and bleed air components.
- Perform troubleshooting, testing, low and high power turn operational checks of power plant systems, and replace or repair worn or damaged components (e.g., fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves) using hand tools, gauges and testing equipment.
- Remove engine from aircraft, disassemble and inspect organizational level parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repair or replace defective engine parts; reassemble and install engine in aircraft.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals.
- May perform off-site service on assigned detachments as required.
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three years’ experience within the last eight years in their specific aircraft maintenance occupational field; last two years in the military or with a government aviation maintenance contractor.
- Experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.
- Personnel shall be qualified according to their field of expertise and the level of maintenance assigned.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain any company/government required clearance, qualification, or certifications.
- Prior Military must present Member 4 DD214 with Honorable Discharge.
- Must have a valid State Driver’s License.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.
Note:
US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance. - Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules.
- Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, or F-16A/B aircraft.
- Possess a high degree of expertise of aircraft systems and in-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions, tools and test equipment.
- Familiar with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
- Thorough working knowledge of the detection, prevention and treatment of corrosion.
- Customer oriented and capable of cross-training into other specialties.
- Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent
- Hazardous Waste Communication Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- Security Clearance Awareness Training
- COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness
- NALCOMIS/OOMA trained
- Preferred: ESD Trained
- Support Equipment Operator’s License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer and Mobile Start Unit at a minimum)
- Collateral Duty Inspector experience
- Plane Captain Qualified preferred
- Aircraft Towing Certified
- Aircraft Brake Rider Certified
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Fuel Surveillance Trained, Engine Run (1 T/M/S minimum) Troubleshooter/Final Checker Certified/Working
- Classification activity is usually in a hangar/shop/flight line environment; may involve lifting up to 70 pounds.
- May involve exposure to high noise, fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, and extreme weather conditions.
