Job Description
The Aircraft Mechanic-Powerplant performs organizational, intermediate, and limited depot-level maintenance on assigned aircraft, components, and equipment, including inspection, operational test, repair, modification, and troubleshooting. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to other employees as needed.
Accountabilities- Maintains all aircraft main, auxiliary, secondary power systems, fuel systems, engine level, and bleed air components.
- Performs troubleshooting, testing, and low/high‑power turn operational checks of power plant systems, replacing or repairing worn or damaged components such as fuel controls, pumps, oil pumps, gearbox gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
- Removes engine from aircraft, disassembles and inspects organizational-level parts for wear, cracks, security, or defects, and repairs or replaces defective engine parts before reassembling and reinstalling the engine.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals.
- May perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three years of experience.
- Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
- Qualified according to field of expertise and level of maintenance assigned.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any company/government required clearance, qualification, or certification.
- Prior military must present member DD214 with honorable discharge.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
- Must be able to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
- Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, MH-60S aircraft.
- High degree of expertise of aircraft systems.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools and test equipment.
- Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
- Thorough working knowledge of detection, prevention, and treatment of corrosion.
- Customer oriented.
- Capable of cross-training into other specialties.
- Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent.
- Hazardous Waste Communication Training.
- FOD and TCP Awareness.
- Trained Security Clearance Awareness Training.
- COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness.
- NALCOMIS/OOMA trained.
- Preferred ESD trained.
- Support Equipment Operator’s License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit minimum).
- Collateral Duty Inspector experience.
- Egress System Checkout.
- Plane Captain Qualified preferred.
- Aircraft Towing Certified.
- Aircraft Brake Rider Certified.
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Fuel Surveillance Trained.
- Engine Run (1 T/M/S minimum).
- Troubleshooter/Final Checker Certified/ Working Environment.
May be required to lift objects up to 70 pounds; necessitates close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus. Work conditions may include inclement weather, high noise hazards, fumes or airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards.
Compensation & Benefits- Hourly rate: $60.66 (Hourly rate set by CBA).
