Job OverviewTroubleshoot, repair, install and service medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment; operate, inspect, and perform preventive maintenance on medium and high voltage overhead and underground distribution systems; prepare estimates, and plan and manage own projects within allotted budgets; and perform related work as required. Provide maintenance on High Voltage systems according to company standards providing the customer with high-quality experience.
High Voltage Electrician is a full journey level classification performing skilled high voltage electrical work in accordance with the techniques of the trade, based on completion of a recognized apprenticeship or its equivalent. This classification is distinguished from other classifications which may perform limited elements of electrical work by its focus on voltage systems above 480 volts and equipment, and by the scope of work and level of skill required.
This is an advanced semi-skilled position. Employees are required to complete all Tech 1, 2 and 3 requirements for a total of forty-eight (48) months of service and six hundred (600) successful hours of trade-related vocational instruction. Technicians who attain established levels of proficiency and qualifications are eligible to move to the next Tech level. Failure to complete the required hours for training/course work may be subject to discipline procedures.

Job Duties
- Climb power poles and repair or replace wire, cables, insulators, and connectors.
- Set poles, guy wires, and install transformers and regulators.
- Splice cables, repair and/or replace protection devices, keep records on various equipment.
- Perform tests on oil and insulation characteristics.
- Repair, maintain, and replace components, cables, and control devices.
- Replace and/or adjust trip units, determine size of conductor and protection size or setting and be able to modify factors for local conditions.
- Safely and proficiently operate both Bucket and Line Trucks.
- Troubleshoot and repair overhead and underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, utility poles, and supporting hardware.
- Replace and install medium voltage overhead and underground electrical circuits and terminations.
- Fabricate and install a variety of components including but not limited to duct banks, cable runs, concrete pads for electrical equipment, risers, transformer banks, and low voltage electrical panels and metering.
