Position: CASEWORK MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST 3

Overview

DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting for a Casework Management Specialist 3 in the Fallon Child Welfare Office. Under supervision, incumbents determine social service needs of clients, develop appropriate solutions and case plans, and provide ongoing case management services. Incumbents provide child welfare services to children and families to develop and implement a case plan that presents intervention strategies to meet the child's needs;

ensures children have their medical, mental health and educational needs met; provides strength‑based family centered case management services to families that promote the safety and well‑being and permanency of children, including home visits, monitoring services, report preparation and record keeping. Incumbents receive training in performing the duties outlined in the series concept. Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.;

Responsibilities

Control and execute a comprehensive suite of case planning and management activities: develop, manage, and implement case plans and safety plans, conduct client interviews with family members, collaterals, court stakeholders, and care providers, assess needs with agency‑approved tools, identify goals and develop strategies, review client history, recommend changes, remediate deficits with intervention strategies, and deliver crisis interventions. Monitor client and family progress;

identify, obtain, coordinate, monitor and evaluate resources and services; make referrals to other service providers; assist clients in obtaining financial assistance; coordinate services with outside agencies; consult with clinicians, social workers, medical personnel, vendors, contractors, school districts, courts, and other public agencies; act as a motivator and negotiator to resolve service delivery issues; conduct assessments and home visits using motivational interviewing;

monitor follow‑up services; arrange transportation and prepare court reports; monitor provider compliance; ensure quality of living environment; train care providers; review billing; prepare correspondence and documentation; participate in multidisciplinary teams and attend staff, committee and task‑force meetings; assert professional conduct in stressful situations; and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, special education, human growth and development, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, gerontology, or a closely related social science or human services field and two years of professional experience providing casework services to children, adults, families, or vulnerable and/or older adults in a health and/or human services setting; or one year of experience as a Casework Management Specialist II or Social Worker II in Nevada State service;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience above the Bachelor’s level.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of: applicable federal and State laws and regulations, agency policies, practices and procedures regarding human characteristics which indicate dysfunction; developing, implementing and managing case and safety plans; motivational interviewing techniques and Stages of Change Theory; client rights and confidentiality laws; court procedures.

Skill in: maintenance of accurate case management records and entry of case management data into assigned database.

Ability to: take decisive action to protect vulnerable at‑risk clients; apply advanced case work methods and principles; remain calm, think clearly and act professionally and decisively while dealing with stressful situations and difficult clients; conduct home visits; supervise child/parent visits; testify in court proceedings; prepare periodic and permanency reports and comprehensive recommendations to court system; monitor compliance with court orders.
