Responsibilities
- Provide clerical and administrative assistance supporting funeral operations.
- Meet the general public to answer questions and provide information on funeral and cremation topics.
- Answer phones courteously and politely.
- Assist with funeral, memorial and other services or ceremonies requested by funeral home clients and management.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Perform funeral services assistant duties in alignment with company mission, values and policies.
- Prepare for services: deliver and set up floral arrangements, chairs, caskets, urns, photos, personal keepsakes or mementos.
- Ensure proper care and storage of items.
- Prepare documents related to services, cremations and maintenance per management directions.
- Assist with respectful preparation of remains, including dressing/lifting deceased or operating crematory, as permitted by law and company regulations.
- Perform office duties: answer phones, operate fax machine, computer, multiline phone system, debit card machine, typewriter, postage meter and scale, stereo/video system.
- Run errands including floral delivery, supply and document pick-up.
- Serve as an usher, park cars or provide transportation as required.
- Drive funeral home vehicles for services and pick up families.
- Ensure refreshments are available when permitted by law.
- Assist with visitations, memorial and funeral services: set up visitation and chapel, dress and casket remains, deliver family items and flowers.
- Greet and receive client families and others entering the office for information and assistance.
- Accommodate needs of families during services and/or visitation.
- Wash and clean funeral home vehicles and other client vehicles as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service and/or sales experience preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office suite and databases (preferred); ability and willingness to learn required.
- Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
- High level of compassion and integrity.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional behaviors and teamwork.
