Senior Superintendent Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to serve as the primary field leader for commercial construction projects. The Senior Superintendent will direct onsite workflow, manage project execution in accordance with established schedules, and ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
This role serves as a critical liaison between the project team, subcontractors, clients, architects, and other stakeholders. The Senior Superintendent will provide day-to-day leadership on the jobsite, communicate project priorities, coordinate resources, resolve field issues, and ensure projects progress safely, efficiently, and according to plan.
The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader with strong knowledge of building processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to organize people, resources, and priorities in fast-paced project environments.
Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Project Execution- Serve as the primary onsite leader for assigned commercial construction projects.
- Direct daily site activities and workflow in accordance with the project schedule, construction documents, and established quality standards.
- Communicate project priorities, expectations, and schedule requirements to site staff and subcontractors.
- Coordinate the proper methods and sequencing of construction activities to maintain project momentum.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to develop, maintain, and execute the project schedule.
- Make and follow through on schedule commitments while proactively identifying potential delays and developing solutions.
- Organize site resources, including labor, tools, equipment, materials, and temporary facilities, to meet project requirements and deadlines.
- Identify long-lead materials and equipment and coordinate expediting efforts to minimize schedule risk.
- Maintain daily logs documenting project activities, site conditions, progress, manpower, deliveries, and other relevant information.
- Manage punch list activities and oversee the closeout process through owner and architect acceptance.
- Lead and administer the project safety program for all employees, subcontractors, vendors, and visitors onsite.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant jobsite throughout all phases of construction.
- Ensure accidents and incidents are promptly reported, documented, investigated, and appropriately addressed.
- Participate in safety inspections conducted by internal teams and outside agencies.
- Ensure subcontractors understand and comply with project safety requirements.
- Maintain rigorous quality standards across all aspects of project execution.
- Identify quality issues early and coordinate corrective actions to prevent rework and project delays.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with plans, specifications, applicable codes, and established quality expectations.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with subcontractors and trade partners.
- Communicate expectations clearly and ensure subcontractors have the information and resources necessary to perform their work effectively.
- Ensure subcontractors are treated fairly while maintaining accountability for schedule, safety, quality, and contractual requirements.
- Review subcontractor scopes of work and identify potential gaps or conflicts that could lead to unnecessary change orders.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of work orders, tickets, field directives, and other project-related items.
- Identify potential problems early and take immediate action to develop and implement effective solutions.
- Serve as a professional representative of the organization when interacting with clients, architects, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and community stakeholders.
- Develop positive relationships within the local construction community that support long-term business opportunities.
- Develop and organize the onsite project team to support efficient project execution.
- Provide direction, leadership, and mentorship to field staff and project team members.
- Coordinate temporary site facilities, utilities, access, logistics, and other operational requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and broader site operations team throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement among project personnel.
The Senior Superintendent works primarily in an active construction site environment and must be comfortable operating in dynamic conditions where priorities, schedules, and project requirements can change quickly.
