Aalis Management Consulting is seeking a Senior Clinical Laboratory Specialist (Blood Bank) to support a federal healthcare agency responsible for overseeing military medical treatment facilities and enterprise laboratory operations.
This senior-level role provides subject matter expertise in transfusion medicine, immunohematology, blood product management, regulatory compliance, and laboratory readiness across a distributed healthcare system. The position supports policy implementation, quality oversight, inspection readiness, and operational standardization initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in high-complexity blood bank operations within federal, military, VA, or large healthcare systems.
Key Responsibilities Transfusion Medicine & Technical OversightProvide senior-level expertise in immunohematology, compatibility testing, antibody identification, component therapy, and transfusion reaction investigation.
Advise on standardization of blood bank procedures across multiple clinical laboratory sites.
Support review and development of enterprise-level SOPs, policies, and procedural guidance.
Provide consultation on complex serologic cases and reference laboratory coordination.
Regulatory & Accreditation ComplianceEnsure compliance with:
- CLIA high-complexity laboratory standards
- AABB accreditation requirements
- CAP inspection standards
- FDA blood product regulations
Support inspection preparation, corrective action planning, and quality assurance initiatives.
Conduct gap analyses and risk assessments related to transfusion services.
Quality & Performance ManagementEvaluate laboratory quality metrics, transfusion utilization, and blood product wastage trends.
Recommend process improvements to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency.
Support enterprise laboratory quality management programs.
Assist with hemovigilance reporting and transfusion safety monitoring.
Operational & Readiness SupportProvide guidance on blood inventory management, emergency release protocols, and contingency planning.
Support disaster preparedness and blood supply continuity planning.
Advise on laboratory information system (LIS) optimization related to transfusion services.
Contribute to workforce development initiatives, training programs, and competency frameworks.
Strategic & Advisory SupportDevelop briefing materials, executive summaries, and technical reports for senior leadership.
Participate in working groups and cross-functional laboratory modernization efforts.
Serve as a subject matter expert during programmatic reviews and enterprise initiatives.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related scientific discipline.
Certification as:
- MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP)
- BB(ASCP) preferred
Minimum 8+ years of experience in high-complexity blood bank/transfusion services.
Demonstrated experience with AABB, CAP, and CLIA regulatory environments.
Experience supporting federal healthcare systems, military treatment facilities, VA facilities, or large multi-site hospital networks.
Strong knowledge of:
- Antibody identification
- Massive transfusion protocols
