Human Resources Intern

Job Description:

HITT Contracting is seeking a part-time intern to join our Human Resources team in our Falls Church, VA, headquarters office from the end of May through early August. The HR intern will be provided with an overview of our department's many functions, including recruiting, corporate responsibility, talent development, benefits, payroll, compliance, and HR business partnership. This intern will be sponsored throughout the summer by a Senior Associate of our Recruiting team and will receive mentorship from several HR team members.

The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Human Resources or a related field and will be a senior during the  school year. This individual possesses a high attention to detail in all tasks, ranging from HR operations support to taking on challenging special projects. To excel in this position, one must have a positive attitude, a sense of accountability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in all business matters.

By the end of the 10-week program, the intern should have a well-rounded experience and a deeper understanding of how HR functions in an organization.

Responsibilities
  • Support our talent acquisition efforts by reviewing resumes, conducting candidate prescreens, providing feedback to hiring managers, and scheduling interviews
  • Support the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, candidate sourcing, interview scheduling, and offer coordination
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date candidate records in the applicant tracking system (ATS)
  • Partner with recruiters and hiring managers to ensure timely and efficient hiring processes
  • Support the facilitation of team member onboarding process, resources, and check-ins
  • Review and evaluate department policies and support I-9 self-audit imposed tasks
  • Participate in training feedback collection and analysis of performance reviews
  • Assist the HITT Futures Program with programming of the Construction Internship and Externship, coordinating events, and preparing material for the learning curriculum
  • Support the facilitation of HITT's learning and development function including trainings and cohorts
  • Assist with preparation of the company Employee Engagement Survey
  • Assist with the maintenance of position descriptions for the company
  • Complete other tasks and projects assigned by various HR stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively internally
  • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills
  • Must be able to work efficiently in a deadline-oriented environment while maintaining quality
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point
  • Knowledge of fundamental HR principles and practices
  • Self-starter with a can-do attitude who is resourceful, a critical thinker, and a problem-solver
  • Possesses a strong desire to learn and be challenged
