Registered Nurse; RN Observation Unit

Overview

Inova Fairfax Hospital is hiring an Experienced Registered Nurse to join the Observation Team. This full‑time night shift position (7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., including some weekends) takes place in the Observation Unit located near the Emergency Room. The unit has 36 ED‑type beds and serves a high‑turnover patient population with an average stay of 25 hours. Patients include cardiac, neurological, medical, and surgical cases.

Shift: Night shift, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., with occasional weekend coverage. Sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance are available to eligible nurses.

• Perform comprehensive patient health assessments and synthesize data to determine patient needs.
• Develop individualized plans of care, using assessment findings and patient population trends to achieve best practice outcomes.
• Provide patient and family centered care, integrating knowledge, skills, and experience to meet needs throughout the continuum of care.
• Advocate for patients’ rights and serve as a resource to resolve issues.
• Coordinate resources from all disciplines to achieve desired outcomes and manage healthcare and alternate service transitions.
• Document all patient care activities according to documentation standards and assist team members with documentation.
• Evaluate processes to achieve outcomes, anticipate patient variances, and revise plans of care as needed.
• Make clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data, and intuition while promoting team members’ development of clinical decision making.

• Education:
  
  BSN from an accredited nursing school. If holding an ADN, must obtain a BSN within five years of start.
• Experience:
  
  Minimum one year of Registered Nurse clinical experience in an acute care setting.
• Certification:
  Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Virginia or privilege to practice under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact;
  Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification required upon start.

• Previous experience in Observation, Med‑Surg Telemetry, ED, or Cardiac Telemetry.
