Role

The Admission Registered Nurse (RN) will provide, arrange, and coordinate hospice care for patients and families in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team, making initial nursing assessments and treatment decisions based on patient and family needs and wishes.

The Admissions RN is responsible for supervising LPNs, CNAs, unit secretaries, and volunteers.

• At least two years of public health/community health, medical‑surgical, or related nursing experience.
• Experience in home care, hospice, and/or oncology nursing preferred.

• Diploma or Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• BSN preferred.

• Licensure from the governing body for practice in District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia, based on state/jurisdiction of practice, or licensure from a compact state.
• Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) required for practice in State of Maryland and District of Columbia.

The nurse must possess strong conceptual thinking, problem‑solving, initiative, and follow‑through; be able to work in a fast‑paced environment using tact, patience, and diplomacy; manage conflict and be comfortable with conflict resolution; develop trusting relationships and partnerships with physicians, payers, patients, and co‑workers; maintain a positive public image; handle blood, bodily fluid, and communicable disease exposure; lift and move patients, including the ability to push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs;

drive long distances on a tight schedule; and provide physical care to patients.

The ability to learn and efficiently use patient health information systems and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet browsers.

Apply common‑sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; operate medical devices and equipment; adjust to various vision demands; and perform manual tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.

The work environment is a typical business office with computers, printers, copy/fax machines, and telephones; noise level is light to moderate; temperature is controlled.
