We are seeking a Data Center Facility Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon data centers. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The Data Center Facility Manager is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the data center.
The role maintains high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum. This equipment supports mission‑critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.
This role acts as Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. It includes maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting mission‑critical data center facility equipment such as stand‑by diesel generators, 3‑phase electrical systems, switch gear, UPS units, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries, CRAC units, chillers, cooling towers, water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, motors and additional support equipment such as fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.
Key Job Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure. Ensure that all work performed within the space meets high quality standards and has no impact on internal or external customers.
- Manage teams of 24×7 engineering technicians across all facets of their career.
- Engage in improvement projects, often requiring coordination with a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
- Coordinate daily with a multitude of third‑party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.
- Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
- Serve as the after‑hours on‑call Data Center Facility Manager, responding to any issues within the data centers and managing investigation, mitigation, and recovery of the issue(s).
- Manage teams of 24×7 engineering technicians: prioritize and assign tasks, coach, create documentation, and train staff on best practices.
- Manage operations budget: monitor and control expenditures, ensure optimal resource allocation.
- Drive improvement projects from conception to completion in collaboration with support teams.
- Coordinate with third‑party vendors to meet contracted SLA requirements.
- Communicate complex technical information to diverse stakeholders, including non‑technical audiences.
- Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls and address urgent issues outside regular working hours.
- Act as an escalation point for facilities‑related issues, overseeing routine and emergency services and ensuring safety procedures are followed.
- Deliver operational excellence while prioritizing team development and well‑being.
