Data Center Technician

Overview

Job  | Amazon Data Services, Inc. – Data Center Technician. Join our AWS team to maintain global cloud infrastructure, hardware and network repair, and data center operations in a 24/7 environment. The role may require travel within and outside the regional work area and relocation considerations for training and site assignment.

• Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on various components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability; escalate to senior technicians and management as needed.
• Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
• Participate in on-call duties, scheduled maintenance, and change management activities.
• Contribute to documentation and process improvement based on analysis of operational issues.
• Assist with training and onboarding of new team members.

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; assist with heavier lifts as part of group efforts.
• Work in cramped and/or elevated locations; bend, lift, stretch, and reach; stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ascend/descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely; work in a noisy environment.
• Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (day and night coverage).

• Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
• Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training or until the assigned facility is operational.
• Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and facility status.
• Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required.

As a Data Center Technician, you will take ownership of technical issues, engage other teams to drive resolution, solve problems at their root, and maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting. This role requires shift work including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with travel within and outside the regional area. A reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license are required since company transportation is not provided.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience
• Ability to work on a flexible schedule including days, nights, and/or weekends

• Experience working in a Data Center environment
• An Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional or military experience in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, networking engineering, etc.)
• Understanding of network design, protocols and layer 1/2 troubleshooting
• Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
