Montessori Art Teacher and afternoon support teacher

Winfield Children's House has an opening for an Early Childhood Art Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The position could start as early as this spring. The right candidate will become an integral part in our Accredited Montessori Preschool program supporting our four 3-6 year old classrooms.

The position requires a thoughtful, nurturing, conscientious teacher who has worked with young children, and is passionate about Early Childhood education. Montessori teaching experience is a plus, but more important is experience in process art and creating an art room that offers young children a safe and inviting space to explore open-ended artful activities. Successful candidates have taught in Reggio, Montessori, and Waldorf environments.

Your responsibilities include the development and execution of an early childhood art program that focuses on process art experiences in the visual arts as well as music, theater, dramatic play and loose parts exploration. Planning time is provided for preparing and maintaining the multi-media Art Room. Showcasing the children's experiences and progress is established through weekly newsletters, assisting with building the student's yearlong portfolios, and helping with an end of the year Arts Festival.

In the afternoon your role will include supporting the classroom teachers in their afternoon programming allowing classroom teachers an opportunity to plan and attend meetings.

Our full-time Outdoor Educator rounds out our talented and caring teaching staff.

This position is full-time and can be either school year or year-round; during the summer months, a smaller nature and art camp is offered to our enrolled students. Starting in the summer ahead of the 2026-27 school year is a possibility as well. Winfield also sponsors teachers to attend training to receive their Montessori credential, so this position can also provide the opportunity to further expand your career.

Winfield is located in Falmouth, just north of Portland, Maine. Recently celebrating its 35th anniversary, Winfield currently serves approximately 100 students from 16 months through 6 years old.

• A Bachelor's degree or related experience
• Previous experience with Preschoolers in childcare, teaching, or other related fields
• Experience leading process-based art exploration for children
• Ability to build rapport with children
• Positive and patient demeanor
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work collaboratively in a supportive environment
