Position: Staff Regulatory Consultant

Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Staff Regulatory Consultant in the Northeast (NE) Region. In the NE, we have offices in Pittsfield and Falmouth, Maine, Essex, Connecticut, and Strasburg, Pennsylvania.

Salary: $65,000-$85,000/year (based on experience)

Who You Are

An environmental professional with a minimum 2-5 years of experience in regulatory, licensing and compliance work including State and Federal permitting processes (i.e., US Army Corps of Engineers 404 permits, 401 Clean Water Act permitting, Section 106). A bachelor's degree in environmental science, policy, and/or studies; ecology; planning; recreation; political science; or a related field is required.

Knowledgeable:
Experience with federal regulations relating to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and acts such as the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, Clean Water Act, etc. Professional or collegiate-level writing, communication, and research techniques and a demonstrated ability to organize and track multiple project assignments. Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.

Ability to selectively apply AI to work products.

Relationship-Focused:
The ability to interface with the public, agencies, and clients in a variety of settings, public speaking experience, ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and communicate assignment of tasks to other staff, as necessary.

Motivated:
Interest in learning and gaining additional experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to travel on occasion for in state and out-of-state meetings or assignments
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point
About The Position

The Staff Regulatory Consultant position will work on Kleinschmidt's ongoing hydroelectric relicensing/licensing and permitting efforts. The successful candidate will participate as part of a team of technical professionals working on primarily hydroelectric, as well as other renewable energy projects, in the northeast with opportunities for additional project work across the country.

This position may include occasional fieldwork and travel but is primarily an office-based position.

Day-to-day tasks will include project-related research and review of environmental regulations; writing and summarizing environmental, scientific and engineering data; coordinating and attending meetings with resource agencies and contractors; and assisting with project schedule and budget planning. The ideal candidate will be able to lead small to medium tasks while managing competing deadlines across various technical areas.
