Reporting to the Procurement Manager the Purchasing Assistant will provide assistance to support the volume increase in time sensitive purchasing activities that occurs seasonally in support of MBL’s short-term visiting scientists, faculty, and students.
MAJOR DUTIES:- Receive, review for accuracy, process, monitor, and expedite purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and other procurement requests in accordance with MBL policies and procedures.
- Communicate order status to end users and update internal tracking tools.
- Follow up with suppliers as needed.
- Create and maintain electronic procurement files for purchases.
- Other procurement activities as assigned.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, time management, personal organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in an accurate and timely manner, prioritizing multiple tasks from different projects.
- Basic knowledge of standard software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) and data entry.
- Comfortable creating and maintaining electronic filing systems
REQUIRED:
One or more years professional purchasing experience is preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires sedentary work (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects). Worker must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, push, pull, use fingertips, grasp, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
LOCATION:This position is on-campus and is not eligible for remote or alternative work locations.
