Job Title: Part-Time Strings Faculty
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Responsible to: Arts Department Chair
Salary Range: $11,000-$12,000
Start Date: August 2026
Position Summary: Falmouth Academy is seeking a passionate and collaborative Part-Time Strings Teacher to join our music department to inspire students in grades 7–12 through engaging and high-quality string instruction. The ideal candidate will foster musical growth, creativity, and confidence while helping students develop strong performance and ensemble skills.
Classes are 45 - 60 minutes long and follow a set five-day schedule. Tuesday and Thursday class times are from 11:00 to 11:45 AM for middle school students and 12:10 - 1:10 PM for upper schoolers, for a total of three to five classes per week. Music performances are held a few times during the school year and may require weekend attendance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach and direct all aspects of the Strings elective for students in grades 7–12
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with program goals
- Prepare students for concerts, performances, music festivals, and school events
- Drive students in the FA bus to music auditions and festivals (some festivals may require weekend attendance)
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Perform in Artful Fridays’ All School Meeting a few times per year
- Differentiate instruction to support varying skill levels and learning styles
- Collaborate with music department faculty and school staff
- Take attendance and maintain accurate student records
- Complete student grading a few times throughout the school year
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Maintain classroom materials, instruments, and music library as needed
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist the Arts Chair with departmental needs, special projects, and requests as they arise
- Mandatory attendance during one Back-to-School Faculty Open Session Meeting (TBD) and requested arts department meetings throughout the fiscal year.
- This list is neither fixed nor exhaustive: duties and responsibilities are subject to alteration in response to the School’s shifting staffing needs. Individual assignments and other assigned duties may change at any time at the direction of the Head of School and as enrollment and/or other institutional considerations and needs may require.
- Experience teaching strings and/or directing ensembles
- Strong knowledge of violin, viola, cello, and bass pedagogy
- Preferred candidates will have experience working in a school setting
- Ability to work effectively with middle and high school students
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or related field preferred
