Job Title: Part-time Ceramics Faculty

Position Summary

Falmouth Academy is seeking a part-time ceramics instructor for the 2026-27 school year. Preferred candidates will have an academic background in ceramics or a related field, as well as experience working in a school setting. A degree in art is preferred. Responsibilities include overseeing and executing all aspects of the Ceramics electives and occasionally organizing community events for fundraising. Classes are 45 - 60 minutes long and follow a set five-day schedule.

Tuesday and Thursday class times are from 11-11:45 AM for middle school students and 12:10-1:10 PM for upper schoolers, for a total of four to six classes per week. Art shows are held a few times during the school year and may require weekend attendance. The position includes maintaining a display of ceramic artwork on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the ceramics class and studio, including teaching, inventory management, class preparation and setup, supervision of cleanup, enforcement of safety protocols, and communication with students as needed.
  • Teach three classes per week in ceramics (up to 13 students per class). FA has thirteen wheels and our own Olympic kiln in a dedicated building.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the studio comply with current life safety codes and requirements.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records and input them into our system.
  • Evaluate, grade, and enter students' performance grades in rehearsals and performances three times per year.
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Arts Chair.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BFA in the arts preferred.
  • Three years of experience in a comparable environment with a proven record of success.
  • Ability to remain calm and productive in difficult situations, demonstrating good people skills and a sense of humor.
