Overview

The Project Engineer provides administrative and tactical support to experienced Project Managers and Estimators. Responsibilities include preparing accurate and detailed project estimates, supporting complex projects, and providing information to assist in the supervision of construction projects from beginning to end. The role ensures projects are completed within time and budgetary constraints, comply with job specifications, and meet safety regulations. The Project Engineer also directs their own assigned projects, overseeing all phases from initial estimating to completion and supervising field construction.

Functions
  • Assists Project Managers & Estimators with analysis of proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents; calculates complete takeoffs of scope of work.
  • Compares and qualifies vendor and subcontractor proposals.
  • Office Engineer duties.
  • Provides engineering support for projects in various stages.
  • Maintains construction files.
  • Receives, reviews, forwards and tracks status of submittals and change orders.
  • Initiates, prepares, reviews, tracks, and distributes project documents.
  • Assists in project buy‑out – generates Requests for Quotes (RFQs).
  • Assists in preparation of monthly owner project status reports.
Project Execution

Manage purchase orders, subcontracts and submittal process to procure goods and services at competitive prices and in a timely manner. May manage coordination with vendors and subcontractors according to project‑specific purchase orders and subcontracts.

  • Builds and maintains project schedules that provide clear direction for the project team.
  • Manages day‑to‑day operational aspects of assigned projects.
  • Executes the work plan according to Lawrence‑Lynch methodology.
  • Enforces project standards.
  • Identifies resources needed, procures project supplies & materials, and assigns individual responsibilities; tracks subcontractor & supplier participation on projects and documents truck times.
  • Coordinates scheduling with main office/dispatch.
  • Mitigates risk exposure and promotes environmental health and safety.
  • GPS/Engineering: may support the GPS/Engineering Division by building AutoCAD models of projects and assisting in GPS and intelligent machine control.
  • Duties may overlap or work in conjunction with the Civil Construction Office Engineer, GPS/Engineering, and/or Superintendent roles.
  • Administrative/Accounting: ensures project documents are completed timely and submitted for processing; assists monthly estimate preparation; documents all contract‑influenced information (e.g., change order management), tracking of measurement and payment items including quantities, LLC payroll, and change orders; assists in maintaining submittal management database(s); assists with daily reports, JHA’s, and other required reporting; assists in invoice approvals/quantity reconciliations; provides monthly estimate preparation, cost and schedule…
