Purpose of Position
Performs receptionist/secretarial duties on Patient Care units and functions as the central communication source in the Nursing Station.
Description- Completes necessary forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders.
- Sustains proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
- Maintains accurate and complete patient records on assigned nursing units by established department policies and procedures, including but limited to:
- Initiates and assembles charts
- Assists with obtaining and filing patient Health Care Proxy
- Assists with organizing patient transfers within the hospital to other acute care facilities
- Assists with discharge process of patients from the EMR
- Initiates scheduling of PCP follow-up appointments
- Responds in a professional and courteous manner in all telephone and verbal communications skills with internal and external customers.
- Properly utilizes Nurse Locator for timely communications with nursing staff; and Patient Call system to initiate timely responsiveness to patient call bells.
- Maintains patient chart in appropriate functional order as prescribed by hospital policy.
- Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients.
- Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies on assigned unit.
- Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
- Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
- Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
- Successful completion of medical terminology course or successfully pass medical terminology challenge exam.
- Successful completion of EPIC training program and exam within one (1) month of starting position.
Summer Temp, 48PP (24 hrs. per week), Rotating Days, 8a-4p, Rotating Weekend & Holidays (ICU)
