Postdoctoral Scientist – Worden Lab

Marine Biological Laboratory | Woods Hole, MA | Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

We are looking for outstanding individuals interested in working at the interface between the evolutionary and biological sciences – with studies extending from the lab to field. This is an entry level postdoctoral position in marine microbiology. The successful candidate will have exceptional skills in advanced flow cytometry, strong bioinformatic skills and working knowledge of open ocean microbial communities. A Ph.D. degree in Geophysical Sciences or molecular microbial biology and ecology are most desirable.

The candidate should be team spirited and have experience with sea‑going research.

• Ph.D. in microbiology, microbial ecology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or genetics.
• Strong flow cytometry skills with research‑grade instruments.
• Record of scientific rigor, productivity, and creativity.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong publication record.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Experience in bioinformatic analysis of metatranscriptomics, gene expression (RNA‑Seq) and/or comparative genomics or metagenomics.
• Knowledge of extraction processes, PCR, amplicon generation and other molecular biology approaches.
