OverviewThis senior role provides leadership across all accounting operations. The position oversees month-end and year-end close, ensures the accuracy of the general ledger, and delivers GAAP compliant financial statements. It directs project cost management, supports procurement and inventory processes for specialized laboratory materials, and oversees accounts payable and receivable activities. The role produces clear financial analyses for executive leadership and works closely with R&D and operations teams on forecasting, capital planning, and evaluation of new initiatives.
Additionally, it strengthens internal controls, enhances accounting systems, and drives process improvements to support organizational growth and operational excellence.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Manage the general ledger and maintain accurate records for R&D projects, lab operations, pilot production, and raw material usage.
- Track project costs and budgets for research initiatives, including labor, materials, equipment, and external testing.
- Support procurement and inventory processes related to chemicals, substrates, lab supplies, and specialized equipment.
- Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring timely payment cycles and accurate customer billing for research contracts or development services.
- Prepare financial reports for leadership, including R&D spending summaries, cost analyses, and trend insights relevant to product development.
- Collaborate with the R&D team and operations to forecast spending, plan capital purchases, and understand project financial implications.
- Assist with payroll review, including hourly project-based allocation and benefits accounting.
- Strengthen internal controls, streamline accounting workflows, and recommend system or process improvements to support scaling.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with project accounting.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic R&D-focused organization.
- Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating with scientists, chemists, and leadership.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical abilities, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
