Job Summary

The Project Account Manager provides project management for the Grid Solutions Group. Manages the flow of material from planning to completion, maintains project schedules and databases, and ensures required specifications are met for all jobs in progress. Coordinates, analyzes, and acts upon information and feedback related to customer needs, pricing, products, competition, and procedures. Obtains orders and provides order entry, expediting, pricing, follow-up, and other value-added services as required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with Border States' Business Development Managers, Regional Managers, and sales staff to provide product management for assigned projects to meet and exceed sales and gross profit objectives.
  • Handle projects across substations, power transmission, wind and solar energy, battery energy storage, data centers, Telco, or HV industrial.
  • Manage material flow from planning to project completion.
  • Maintain job schedules and accurate databases; ensure specifications are met.
  • Foster teamwork and clear communication to balance workload.
  • Provide responsive, high-quality service to customers.
  • Coordinate, analyze, and respond to information on customer needs, pricing, products, competition, and procedures.
  • After bid date, follow up on quotations to clarify product specifications, resolve outstanding issues, and develop schedules meeting customer deadlines.
  • Ensure completion of each assigned project and provide timely follow-up on technical inquiries.
  • May perform material takeoff for bids (e.g., wire, cable, transformers, splices, terminations, switch gear, equipment).
  • May develop quotations within company profit objectives and assist with vendor negotiations for pricing and delivery.
  • Work with legal department on contract review and risk identification as necessary.

Non-essential Functions

  • Complete project group job forms with customer information.
  • Responsibilities may include product application/support, estimating, procurement, material management, staging, kitting, storage, job-site delivery, and project close-out.
  • May be responsible for calls on customer accounts and development of new accounts to secure orders.
  • Consult with engineers/developers on projects; provide timely follow-up on technical inquiries.
  • Assist with purchasing, inventory management, pricing development, and related services; contact vendors for pricing; attend trainings or trade shows as required.
Qualifications
  • Business or trade degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of prior customer service, quotation, or sales experience with knowledge of electrical products and utility systems preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of product lines, substitutes, and supplier pricing policies preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Proficiency with Windows PC, Microsoft Office, internet, email, and SAP software preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Technical ability to understand electrical systems and product applications; prior electrical distribution experience preferred.
  • Ability to read specifications and drawings; highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work well in a team.
  • Excellent customer service: competent, accurate, responsive, and engaged.
