Responsibilities:
Enterprise Risk Management Framework
- Create a practical, scalable risk management program tailored for Scheels by using industry standards such as COSO and ISO 31000 to set up clear rules, processes, and oversight
- Develop and maintain the company's risk universe, appetite guidance, rating criteria, and register
- Establish and lead recurring enterprise risk assessment cycles, including interviews and workshops with leadership teams across the company
- Have a vision for continuous improvement of the risk program by updating it to handle new threats, industry changes, and learning from past cases
Risk Identification, Analysis & Reporting
- Partner with business and leadership teams across the company
- Work with risk owners to develop, document, and monitor risk response and mitigation plans
- Develop key risk indicators and monitoring tools to track risk trends over time
- Prepare and deliver clear, decision-ready risk reporting and presentations to the executive committee and other stakeholders
Process Design & Ownership
- Create, document, and own core processes supporting the risk and compliance programs, including intake, assessment, escalation, remediation, and reporting workflows
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate risk and compliance processes
- Develop best practices and templates that enable business teams to manage risk within their own areas
- Coordinate with the Risk Manager to ensure enterprise risk priorities align with insurance, claims, and operational risk activities, avoiding gaps or duplication
Compliance Program Support
- Partner with the General Counsel to build and maintain compliance program infrastructure, including policy management, training coordination, and compliance monitoring
- Assist with tracking regulatory changes across the states where Scheels operates and translating requirements into practical business processes and controls
- Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and risk assessments, including tracking findings and remediation to completion
- Help embed compliance considerations into business processes, new initiatives, and vendor relationships
Risk Culture & Education
- Champion risk awareness across the organization, helping associates and leaders understand their role in identifying and managing risk
- Facilitate training to educate and cultivate an engaged risk culture
- Develop training and communication materials on risk and compliance topics
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with leaders and associates at all levels to promote open communication about risk
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or related field
- 5 – 7+ years of experience in enterprise risk management, internal audit, compliance, financial/risk analysis, or a related field
- Experience designing or maturing an ERM or compliance program is strongly preferred
- Experience in retail or multi-state environments preferred
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to see the big picture and connect risks across the business
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to leadership
- Proven ability to build relationships, influence, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
