Job Description
The Field Superintendent – Electrical is responsible for directly supervising and coordinating on‑site construction activities for mission‑critical data center projects. This role serves as the owner’s on‑site representative and works closely with the Project Director, Project Manager, general contractor, subcontractors, third‑party vendors, and regulatory authorities to ensure the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and to quality standards.
This position requires a strong blend of technical electrical expertise, leadership, communication, and construction management experience.
Project TypesProjects may include, but are not limited to:
- Ground‑up construction of data center facilities
- Redevelopment or upgrade of existing buildings into state‑of‑the‑art data centers
- Expansion of data centers and supporting critical infrastructure within active facilities
- Large customer fit‑outs and retrofit projects to support tenant occupancy and deployment needs
Depending on qualifications, this role may support Electrical or Mechanical scope. Senior‑level Superintendent roles may be available for candidates with extensive mission‑critical or electrical infrastructure experience. Core responsibilities apply across disciplines, with emphasis based on assigned scope.
Key Responsibilities Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S)- Partner with on‑site EH&S teams to establish and maintain site safety, health, and security controls
- Ensure compliance with corporate safety objectives and regulatory requirements
- Promote a strong, proactive safety culture across all site activities
- Ensure the general contractor is properly managing site logistics related to owner‑furnished equipment (OFCI)
- Maintain detailed awareness of OFCI schedules, deliveries, and documentation
- Confirm approved submittals are in place prior to delivery of owner‑furnished equipment
- Inspect, receive, and verify equipment and materials upon arrival at the job site
Maintain an on‑site presence Monday–Friday (typical hours 7:00 AM–5:00 PM), with flexibility for evenings, weekends, or emergency response as required by project schedule.
Monitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedule milestones.
Participate in contractor‑led meetings including OAC, subcontractor coordination, pull planning, BIM/VDC, design coordination, and RFI/Submittal reviews.
Provide on‑site technical SME support, including visual inspections and quality reviews for OFCI and contractor‑furnished equipment.
Coordinate with key stakeholders including contractors, utilities, inspection agencies, and neighboring properties.
Address and help resolve on‑site conflicts or disputes, escalating to Project Management when necessary.
Understand and actively track project schedule milestones, identifying risks and impacts early.
Communicate schedule impacts, delays, and mitigation strategies clearly and promptly.
Prepare concise weekly and monthly reporting on progress, risks, variances, and corrective actions.
Quality Control & Assurance- Manage on‑site job photography and documentation
- Review and support implementation of the general contractor’s Quality Control Plan
- Oversee on‑site QA/QC inspections and drive timely closure of punch‑list items
- Support efficient turnover of completed systems and spaces to Operations
- Develop and monitor quality metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions
- Ensure adherence to site cleanliness plans and data center construction best practices (e.g., dust control in critical spaces)
- Coordinate specialty testing and third‑party inspection contractors
- Ensure the general contractor maintains job site security in accordance with the approved, site‑specific security plan
- Assist with pay application review and monitoring to support budget adherence
- Review change orders and invoices in coordination with the Project Manager
- Support startup, commissioning, and training activities in coordination with engineering teams and the Commissioning Authority
