Schedule:

Monday–Friday, full‑time following the academic hours of operation

Salary:
Full daily rate of $228.99. A $130 bonus is awarded after completing 10 full‑time substitute days in the district (days do not have to be consecutive). Bonus payment will follow the next payday after the tenth full‑time day has been paid.

Summary:

The long‑term substitute covers the absence of the classroom educator while providing instruction and assistance to learners and managing classroom activities and behaviors. This position is for a specialized program/resource room and includes providing instruction, assisting special‑education teachers and staff, collecting behavior data, updating teachers on progress toward goals, and flexibility to assist with other tasks as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff.
  • Engage with district staff in the professional learning community process.
  • Connect and share ideas through appropriate formats to express thoughts with integrity.
  • Use effective communication skills to facilitate connection and sharing of ideas in multiple formats with diverse audiences.
  • Establish and clearly articulate procedures and routines that promote efficiency and appropriate use of time.
  • Clearly communicate the instructional purpose of each lesson and make connections to prior learning.
  • Engage learners in meaningful direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice.
  • Utilize questions, discussions, and dialogue that promote critical thinking about diverse perspectives, viewpoints, and experiences.
  • Empower learners to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic learners, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
  • Understand the complexities of cultural and global issues and how they relate to employee and learners’ experiences.
  • Partner with others to resolve potential controversy and conflict through respectful discussion.
  • Proactively seek to understand ideas, opinions, and skills of others.
  • Connect with team members and share ideas to improve learner and employee experience.
  • Utilize creative critical thinking skills when faced with challenges.
  • Design assessments aligned to standards and learning targets, providing frequent opportunities for authentic and meaningful assessments.

  • Maintain communication with supervisor and director regarding feedback, career advancement opportunities, and growth opportunities.
  • Manage planning, instruction, and grading of elementary school content.
  • Use district guaranteed and viable curriculum, including scope and sequence of academic and social‑emotional learning targets and proficiency scales.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of learners.
  • Use district behavioral plans as a backbone to promote positive learner behavior.
  • Foster a safe and equitable classroom environment.
  • Use district protocol for maintaining information on learner progress.
  • Use knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and learners.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of learners.
  • Guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and communicating them to learners.
