Responsible for facilitating IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) related meetings for instructional planning for special education students; monitoring and evaluating student progress and behavior; researching, obtaining, and providing instructional materials for special education services; serving as an IDEA resource for students, parents, and District personnel.
Responsibilities- Administers a variety of evaluative tools to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Analyzes student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Develops Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed.
- Leads meetings to develop behavioral management system for students.
- Prepares a variety of written materials to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Collaborates with parents, instructional staff, and other school personnel to improve the quality of student outcomes and achieve educational plan objectives.
- Informs parents and legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Maintains documents, files, and records to provide up-to-date information and historical references in accordance with guidelines and legal requirements.
- Maintains records and reports regarding pupil progress in a timely manner.
- Participates in various meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
- Bachelor's degree in education
- North Dakota Teaching License or ability to obtain prior to start date with special education endorsement
- High interest in serving students with complex needs
- Understanding of child development stages and developmentally appropriate expectations
- Effective communication skills both verbal and nonverbal
- Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and creativity
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of current programming trends in special education
- Knowledge of IDEA processes and procedures
- Working knowledge of functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans
- Experience in supervising and scheduling para educators/paraprofessionals
- Special Education endorsement with one or more of the following:
Autism spectrum, Emotional disabilities, Intellectual disabilities, Multiple disabilities
