From $47,393 to $91,468 annually

Position Purpose

Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Ensures a safe, pleasant, and effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary, and enforces school policy.
  • Participates in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
  • Assesses student achievement and ability with regard to eligibility for special service programs.
  • Consults with regular classroom teachers regarding curriculum and test modifications and individual evaluation of student performance.
  • Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of students.
  • Works with staff to coordinate goals and objectives.
  • Counsels individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational and personal needs.
  • Prepares report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other surveys and forms.
  • Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, work output and observation, based on determined goals, objectives and directions.
  • Maintains contact with parents of students.
  • Monitors student's progress in and outside special education room.

  • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to demonstrate at the computer is necessary. Trouble shooting the equipment is also a performed strength.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Applied mathematics is integral.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Applied communications is an integral part of the curriculum.
  • ND Teaching License with SED special education endorsements.
