The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Sciences (HNES) at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in the area of sport management to begin in the Spring of 2027 (January 2, 2027 start date) or Fall of 2027 (August 16, 2027 start date). This position's workload is 40 percent teaching (12 credits/year), 40 percent research, 10 percent advising, and 10 percent service.
Responsibilities will include supporting NDSU's land-grant mission of teaching, research, and service.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Sport Management program; participate in academic advising of both undergraduate and graduate students; serve on graduate student committees; establish an independent line of research and publish in scholarly journals; seek external funding to support scholarly activity; be active in professional organizations; and provide service to the department, college, university, and community;
work effectively with colleagues across disciplines and/or community organizations; contribute to department governance and foster a collaborative community across the HNES department.
The Sport Management program is an active program of approximately 170 students with a stable student organization. The program prioritizes experiential learning through national trips and active learning in the classroom. The Sport Management program has established industry partnerships connecting students with working professionals. Learn more about the Sport Management program here: The HNES department is housed within the College of Health and Human Sciences and includes three undergraduate programs, four graduate programs, and 15 faculty members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. PhD in sport management or closely related field from an accredited institution (PhD degree completion required by December 31, 2026 or August 15, 2027)
2. Teaching experience within sport management or related field
3. Peer-reviewed publications
4. Effective oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Evidence of high-quality instruction, advising, and mentoring of students
2. History of seeking external funding to support scholarly research
3. Evidence of industry-related experience in sport management
4. Involvement in professional organizations
