Gifted Services Teacher
This position will be.5 FTE at Washington Elementary and .5 FTE at Roosevelt Elementary.
Position
Purpose:
The mission of FPS Gifted Services is to raise high end academic achievement for identified gifted students. The Gifted Services teacher implements services for students with academic giftedness, including providing accelerated math and ELA curricula and instruction, cluster grouping, and assessment of all students for service potential. The teacher partners with parents, administrators, instructional coaches, and classroom teachers to determine and meet the needs of high potential students.
The teacher will maintain records of services provided, monitor student growth, and determine ongoing services for students on their caseload.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a teacher for elementary students using evidence-based practices to promote the cognitive, social-emotional, and psychosocial skill development of programming that meets their interests, strengths, and needs.
- Assess students for placement in services and monitor growth of students in services.
- Develop and deliver challenging, innovative, and differentiated curriculum tailored to the needs of gifted and talented students.
- Implement instructional strategies that promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Use a variety of assessment tools to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
- Identify and assess students for placement in gifted services using established criteria and assessments.
- Provide individual and small group support to address the academic and social-emotional needs of academically gifted students.
- Advocate for the needs of gifted students within the school community.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and instructional coach to support the integration of students with giftedness into the general education curriculum.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, goals, and needs.
- Organize and participate in professional development opportunities related to gifted education.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's Gifted Services program.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Plan and facilitate enrichment activities, field trips, and special projects that enhance the gifted curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education B.A. in Education
- ND Teaching License
- Possess strong reading and writing skills; have the ability to teach content beyond a student's grade level, especially in the areas of mathematics, literature, and rhetoric
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in general education classroom
- Experience with delivering differentiated instruction
- M.A. in Gifted Education or Educational Psychology of Gifted or close equivalent in the field of gifted education; and North Dakota endorsement in gifted education
- Ability to implement all aspects of a comprehensive gifted program using North Dakota Best Practices for Gifted Programming document for guidelines
- Understanding of research based best practices in gifted education; understanding of the cognitive and social emotional needs of gifted students; understanding of issues of equity in gifted education
