Special Education Instructional Coach
Position
Purpose:
The Special Education Instructional Coach is an experienced, highly-trained educator who partners with teachers and staff to strengthen instructional, behavioral, and special education practices that improve outcomes for students with disabilities. The primary indicator of success is student growth and achievement, with a focus on closing the achievement gap and ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities. Through modeling, feedback, collaborative planning, and mentoring, the coach strengthens educator capacity in evidence-based instruction, learning environments, assessment, and the effective implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs).
This support accelerates learning for all students while promoting inclusive classroom practices and high-quality educational programming for diverse learners.
Responsibilities:
- Instructional Coach:
The K12 Special Education Instructional Coach provides individualized guidance, feedback, and reflection to strengthen instructional practices that improve outcomes for students with disabilities. This includes mentoring teachers, co-planning, modeling instruction, co-teaching, observing classroom practices, facilitating professional learning, and supporting the implementation of evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices. - Curriculum Coach:
The K12 Special Education Instructional Coach supports teachers in aligning instructional practices with district curriculum, grade-level standards, and individualized education programs (IEPs). Through collaborative planning and coaching, the instructional coach helps educators design rigorous, accessible learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. The coach also builds educator capacity to develop high-quality IEPs that accurately reflect students' strengths, needs, and instructional programming while supporting the effective implementation of individualized education programs. - Data Coach:
The K12 Special Education Instructional Coach partners with teachers to analyze academic, behavioral, functional, and progress monitoring data to improve instructional decision-making and student outcomes. The coach supports educators in using multiple sources of data to evaluate instructional effectiveness, monitor progress toward IEP goals, refine interventions, and ensure educational programming is responsive to student needs. Through collaborative data analysis, the coach builds educator capacity to make informed instructional decisions and support the effective implementation of individualized education programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree
- Valid ND Teaching License
- A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience, with at least three years of experience in special education.
