The Opportunity
Ulteig is seeking highly skilled and motivated Lead studies-level engineering candidates to support power system studies in the renewable energy markets. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of renewable energy solutions through rigorous analysis and innovative engineering practices.
What You'll DoAs a Lead Studies Engineer, you will lead advanced power system analysis in the renewable energy sector. You'll manage complex studies – such as TOV, TRV, AC interference, 5mA, insulation coordination, and EMF – using tools like PSCAD, Polaris, CDEGS, ASPEN Line Constants, and TLW‑GEN. Your expertise will drive smarter, safer, and more efficient energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct high-level system studies to support renewable energy projects.
- Apply specialized software to model and analyze electrical phenomena.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret results and recommend solutions.
- Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop procedures for new study areas and support business development.
- Serve as technical lead on projects, coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and clients.
- Conduct technical reviews and enforce quality control standards.
- Research new technologies and contribute to process improvements.
- Participate in client meetings, present technical information, and support proposal development.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET‑accredited or equivalent).
- PE or P.Eng. license required.
- 7+ years of experience in renewable energy, power systems, or related industry.
- Proficiency with engineering software: ETAP, Easypower, PSCAD, Polaris, CDEGS, ASPEN Line Constants, TLW‑GEN.
- Experience working on renewable projects required.
- Ability to independently manage workload and complete tasks.
- Strong analytical skills, self‑motivated, and able to work under pressure.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with staff, management, clients, and external agencies.
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
- Experience performing electromagnetic transient (EMT) and switching transient studies, including lightning, switching events, converter‑based resource interactions, and protection‑related transients.
- Hands‑on experience with transient modeling and analysis tools such as PSCAD (or equivalent EMT tools).
- Experience supporting transient studies for renewable energy facilities, HV/EHV transmission systems, or interconnection projects.
