Overview

Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Engineering Supervisor position for the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) department. The role will focus on leading a subset of the metering and CAISO interconnection and compliance team, fostering on‑job leadership development and supporting power and renewable projects, business development, and company initiatives.

What You’ll Do

Interact closely with other corporate business units such as sales, marketing, account management, and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self‑starting technical leader, reporting directly to an AISP Technical Manager and responsible for leadership, communication, resource management, business acumen, industry framework, and consulting engineering.

Project Technical Lead – 50%
  • Manages and leads all technical activities during proposal, design, construction, and commissioning stages of metering/CAISO projects that are assigned.
  • Provides metering/CAISO project oversight, including managing technical scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and Project Management groups on large or combined projects.
  • Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Oversees design activities of team members.
  • Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations, and specifications, and assumes charge as needed.
Management Responsibilities – 25%
  • Maintain and grow a positive team culture.
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight for employees to achieve performance goals.
  • Coach, train, and develop technical staff; conduct regular 1:1 meetings, career development discussions, succession planning, quarterly reviews, promotions, retention, and yearly engagement survey analysis.
  • Manage team resource planning, cross‑team and cross‑office collaboration, performance reviews, merit and bonus decisions, training, and professional development.
  • Support hiring as an internal manager and assist company‑wide hiring, evaluating resumes, technical phone screens, and in‑person interviews.
Business Development Responsibilities – 25%
  • Partner with Sales team and engineers to promote revenue growth and expand services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Support proposal efforts by developing resources, reviewing proposals, and collaborating with the Proposal Development Team and Project Management group.
  • Maintain and build positive client and CAISO relationships.
  • Participate in cross‑functional teams on strategic initiatives.
What We Expect from You
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program is preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
  • 4+ years of experience in the metering field preferred; open to candidates with hands‑on experience and transferable skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAISO metering and inspection, RIG, and NRI procedures is preferred.
  • Analytical, self‑motivated, able to work in high‑pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, and collaborative attitude.
  • Focused and passionate about internal engagement and maximizing the development of others.
  • Strong business acumen and industry knowledge.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies.
  • High level of initiative and ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Explores new opportunities while understanding risk to the organization.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards.
  • Authorization to work permanently in the US.
  • Willingness to travel 15% of the year.

While this role offers location flexibility, preference will be given to candidates based in the Sacramento or greater California region.
