The Opportunity

Ulteig has an opportunity for a Solar Engineering Manager to lead a team of solar engineers. We are seeking a creative, intelligent, entrepreneurial, driven individual with expertise in the utility scale solar industry. The ideal candidate will build and lead complex technical teams, execute projects, and support business development of the solar service offering to new and existing clients. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for solar development, creating new efficiencies, working in an exciting, fast-paced environment, while supporting multiple clients on a variety of different projects.

What

You'll Do

This individual will report directly to a Renewables Electrical Associate Director and collaborate closely with other teams such as PV Civil, Studies, Substation, Project Management, AISP, and Client Solutions. The Technical Manager is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, resource management & engagement, business acumen, and consulting engineering.

Project Technical Lead - 40%
  • Manages and leads all engineering activities during the proposal, design, and construction stages of projects including managing engineering scope to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Provides project oversight, including managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Works with customers (Developers, EPCs, Utilities, and Owner/Operators) to ensure client and project expectations and success factors are understood and addressed.
  • Provides technical leadership and coordination on large utility scale solar projects involving multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provides creative solutions for complex solar development opportunities.
  • Maintains high levels of quality, responsiveness, and accountability to meet internal and external client project requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications, assumes responsible charge as needed.
  • Assures quality in design work by developing and following internal QA/QC methods.
Management Responsibilities - 40%
  • Works with the Ulteig Senior Leadership team to lead the solar service offering and strategic planning.
  • Grows and leads a collaborative team to ensure key functional needs are met.
  • Coordinates communication and provides status updates to stakeholders as required.
  • Participates with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives for the company and/or department.
  • Maintains and grows positive team culture.
  • Provides strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.
  • Creates and manages team budget for financial responsibility, including revenue, profitability, and indirect expenses.
  • Coaches, trains, and develops engineering technical staff for growth and development opportunities; responsible for regular 1:1 meetings, career development discussions, succession planning, quarterly reviews, individual promotions, team retention, and yearly team engagement survey results.
  • Actively manages team resource planning along with cross-team and cross-office resourcing collaboration, individual performance reviews, annual merit and bonus decisions, training, and professional development for team members.
  • Supports the role of hiring manager as well as company-wide hiring for successful growth, including evaluating candidate resumes, technical phone screens, collaborating with HR partners, and conducting interviews and debrief assessments.
Business Development Responsibilities - 20%
  • Aids in the development and management of strategic accounts and proposals.
  • Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals with the Proposal Development Team and Client Solutions group.
  • Maintains and builds positive client relationships.
What We Expect from You
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical and or electrical engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or PEng registration or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)…
